Chemical Peels

Chemical peels are procedures used to restore a fresh and lively appearance to the skin in areas like the face, neck, and hands. This is done by applying a specific type of chemical solution that causes the skin to exfoliate and eventually peel off. Chemical peels can reduce the appearance of skin imperfections such as acne, fine lines, scars, and wrinkles.

Physicians Choice of Arizona Peels (PCA)

PCA is acknowledged in prominent medical textbooks as the originator of advanced blended chemical peel formulations. PCA peels are only available through physicians and licensed professionals. These peels gently stimulate, firm and tighten skin. Advanced ingredients are carefully blended and work synergistically to remove dull, damaged surface layers without the ¨down¨ time often associated with chemical peels.
There are a variety of PCA peels offered in Indianapolis and Carmel, depending on the skin issues you are facing, our medical aesthetician will decide which peel(s) will have the best results for your skin type.

Light Peel

Uses mild acids such as alpha-hydroxy acid that keep the skin looking fresh and glowing. The solution only affects the outermost layer of the skin. Mild flaking may be a result in a few days following the peel and are very nice for the hands as well. Light Peels are the ideal peels to have during the summer.

Mid-Depth Peel

Help exfoliate the sun damage with a Mid-Depth Peel. This technique uses trichloroacetic or glycolic acid, which makes it an ideal approach to removing damaged skin cells. The skin will peel within a few days after the application and can last 3 to 10 days depending on the last time a peel was applied to the skin. Mid-Depth Peels are ideal to start in the fall.

Deep Peel

This type of peel is the best option when dealing with extensive sun damage and wrinkles, thanks to the solution’s phenol or trichloroacetic acid components. Downtime typically lasts 5 to 12 days. Best to help with extensive Sun Damage and Wrinkles. Downtown typically is 5 to 12 days. Deep peels are ideal during the winter months due to less sun exposure.

Are Chemical Peels Right for Me?

Chemical peels are a great option for people with:
  • Acne
  • Actinic keratosis
  • Dark patches
  • Discoloration
  • Dull complexion, rough skin, scaly patches
  • Fine lines and wrinkles caused by sun damage, aging, or hereditary factors
  • Freckles and sunspots
  • Mild scarring
However, these techniques may not be for you if you have:
  • Scars with extra coloring
  • Sensitive skin due to certain medications or skin issues
  • A history of abnormal scarring

The Procedure

Chemical peel procedures usually last between 30 and 90 minutes. The patient’s hair and eyes will be protected. An agent intended to remove excess oils in the skin will be used. After that, the peel will be carefully applied to the patient’s skin, where it will permeate the skin layers to the intended depth.

Chemical Peel Aftercare

The recovery period depends on which chemical peel you received. One of the most important things to remember is to stay out of the sun until your skin has healed. Moisturizing as recommended will be vital. Be sure to follow our post-treatment instructions as closely as possible.

How Much Do Chemical Peels Cost?

Since chemical peels are a type of cosmetic treatment, the cost won’t be covered by insurance. The price of the treatment will depend on the type of peel you get.
