Arm Lift & Arm Contouring

About Arm Lift Surgery

Arm lift surgery, less commonly referred to as brachioplasty surgery, is a cosmetic surgery procedure done to reshape and contour the underarm portion of the upper arm, the area between the elbow and the shoulder. Most often, but not always, this cosmetic procedure is considered by people who have lost a considerable amount of weight and now have hanging or sagging skin in this area.

Procedure Details

A full brachioplasty involves removal of loose skin using an incision which typically starts at the inner elbow and extends along the inseam area of the arm and up to and sometimes through the armpit area.
A more limited brachioplasty can be performed with a smaller incision in the armpit only. This may be satisfactory for a minor amount of loose skin, but may fall short of a patients’ expectations if more than 50 lbs. has been lost and excess loose skin is present. Deciding between a limited brachioplasty and a full brachioplasty should be made once you’ve had an exam with your plastic surgeon and gone over more detailed information concerning each procedure. A personal consultation would be in your best interest prior to making a decision.

Arm lift surgery is an outpatient surgery and generally takes 2 -3 hours to complete. Pain following an arm lift procedure is minimal and can be controlled. It is not uncommon to have temporary sensation loss in the armpit or upper arm area. Our surgeons recommend taking approximately 1 week off work during arm lift recovery.
