Dr. Beckman grew up in the Chicago suburbs and received her undergraduate degree in molecular and cellular biology from the University of Illinois. Before medical school, she worked directly in the medical device industry developing new products for use in hospitals across the country. She hoped to combine her affinity for innovation with direct patient care and found plastic surgery to be that specialty in medical school. At the University of Illinois College of Medicine, she earned the highest honor for academic achievement in her medical school class and was selected as a member of the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha honor society.

After receiving her medical degree with honors, Dr. Beckman was selected for a highly competitive integrated plastic surgery residency position at Rutgers University, where she rigorously trained in both aesthetic and complex reconstructive plastic surgery for six years. During residency, she developed a strong passion for plastic surgery education and research. She earned several teaching and clinical excellence awards and served as Chief Resident in her final year
